Trump Issues New Threat to Journalists— And This Time He’s Very Serious

Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy, but his latest move might just shock you. This week, he’s taken aim at journalists, threatening lawsuits over anonymous sources and suggesting Republicans should rewrite American libel laws—moves some see as targeting his critics in the media.

President Trump vs. “Anonymous Sources”

It all started as Trump attempted to get ahead of the latest book by Michael Wolff, an author famous (or infamous, depending on whom you ask) for publishing explosive accounts of Trump’s White House years.

Wolff’s previous books were packed with behind-the-scenes revelations from unnamed sources—people allegedly close to the former president who spoke privately.

This time, Trump is pushing back hard.

In a fiery statement, Trump declared, “As a President who is being given credit for having the best opening month of any President, I will not tolerate fake anonymous sources.” He further threatened to file lawsuits against authors or journalists who rely on anonymous quotes, calling their content “made-up, defamatory fiction.”

“I’ll do it as a service to our Country,” Trump wrote, adding an intriguing hint: “Who knows, maybe we will create some NICE NEW LAW!!!”

Changing Libel Laws: A Threat to Press Freedom?

Trump’s latest statement didn’t stop at legal threats—he also suggested a controversial plan for new libel laws. If enacted by congressional Republicans, these laws could dramatically reshape the way journalists report news, especially critical stories about powerful figures.

His opponents see this as a dangerous threat to press freedom, but Trump argues he’s merely fighting dishonesty in journalism. It’s a battle line being drawn, and it could redefine the relationship between politics and the media in America.

Attacking the Critics, Including Allies

Trump didn’t stop there. He also took aim at the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal, accusing them of publishing “real clinkers”—specifically, criticizing their opposition to his proposed tariffs on imported automobiles.

The paper warned that Trump’s auto tariffs could harm Michigan’s critical automobile industry, potentially costing jobs and damaging local economies. Trump fiercely rejected these claims, arguing the opposite would happen: his policies would help, not hurt, American auto workers.

“They are sooo WRONG,” Trump said emphatically, calling the criticism “clinkers.” He promised Americans that his approach would revive American industry dramatically.

“Just let it all happen, and watch,” Trump confidently stated. “AMERICAN industry will thrive, and we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
