Even Trump Supporters Are Begging Him to Stop Federal Layoffs

Donald Trump’s federal workforce purge is sending shockwaves across the country, and now it’s hitting close to home for his own supporters in Oklahoma.

At Tinker Air Force Base, the state’s largest single-site employer, whispers of mass layoffs have local officials—including MAGA supporters—pleading with Trump to reconsider.

According to a report from This is Topeka, 600 civilian federal employees at the base could lose their jobs this week, with no clear answers from federal officials about what’s happening.

Now, even Trump loyalists are warning that this reckless move could cripple national security and devastate local economies.

Fear and Uncertainty Grip Oklahoma

Tinker Air Force Base depends heavily on its civilian workforce for day-to-day operations, and the looming job cuts have left employees and officials in a panic.

Midwest City Mayor Matt Dukes admitted he’s been left in the dark, saying:

“I’ve seen the same story but haven’t been able to confirm. I haven’t heard from any federal officials, but just looking at what’s going on throughout the country, layoffs wouldn’t surprise me.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson described the situation in one word:

People are frightened.”

She added, “And we need to know what exactly is happening.”

Even the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber President, Christy Gillenwater, said the entire region is on edge, telling reporters:

“We’re trying to focus on Tinker, the FAA, the other federal entities and their employees right now. We’ve taken steps to make sure the families of these employees and all these individuals out there know they are supported.”

Trump’s Own Supporters Are Turning on Him

Trump won every single county in Oklahoma in the last election, securing 66% of the vote. But now, some of his biggest local supporters say his policies are harming the very people who backed him.

Choctaw Mayor Chad Allcox, a Trump supporter, voiced his frustration in a scathing Facebook post, writing:

“To be clear, I support the movement President Trump has built, but I do not support what his team is doing to federal employees, especially in the Department of Defense.”

He warned that this isn’t just about today’s layoffs—it could cripple national security for decades.

“If we don’t implement a phased, structured approach to fixing our government, we’re not just hurting today’s workforce—we are crippling our future. At this rate, it could take decades to rebuild what’s being recklessly torn apart right now.”

Where Are Oklahoma’s Leaders?

With panic spreading, many are looking to Oklahoma’s congressional delegation for answers. But so far?

Crickets.

The Oklahoman reported that none of the state’s congressional representatives have responded to requests for comment, leaving thousands of workers in limbo.

What Happens Next?

With 600 jobs on the line, national security at risk, and Trump’s own supporters demanding answers, all eyes are now on the White House.

Will Trump listen to his base and reconsider? Or will Oklahoma—a state that gave him overwhelming support—be left to deal with the fallout alone?
