Man Charged With Killing Kansas Priest Was a Trump Supporter Who Wanted to “Make the Church Great Again”

A shocking murder case in Kansas is now drawing national attention — not just because of the crime, but because of the suspect’s long history of publicly supporting former President Donald Trump.

Gary Hermesch, a 66-year-old man from Oklahoma, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing Father Arul Carasala, a well-known priest in the town of Seneca, Kansas.

The incident reportedly happened on April 3rd, and investigators say Carasala was shot multiple times.

But what’s raising eyebrows is Hermesch’s background.

According to local news station KSNT, Hermesch had been regularly writing Trump-themed letters to the Courier-Tribune, his local newspaper.

In one 2021 letter, he told readers to “follow Donald Trump’s example” to “make the Church great again.” In another, he compared Trump to John F. Kennedy, calling both men “always the man.” In the same letter, he also called President Joe Biden a ‘weak puppy.’”

So far, police haven’t found a clear reason why Hermesch would target the priest, and none of his letters directly mention Carasala. But the strong political tone of his past writings is now part of the conversation as the case unfolds.

Hermesch is currently facing a first-degree murder charge and is being held in custody.

Was this politically motivated — or something deeper?
