Musk Wins Another Big Government Contract—But Not Everyone’s Happy About It

Elon Musk’s influence within the Trump administration is growing rapidly—and critics fear it may soon cross a dangerous line.

This week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced plans to begin using Musk’s SpaceX Starlink satellites to upgrade its communication systems, raising serious questions about conflicts of interest and national security.

The announcement on Monday, which revealed plans to test SpaceX’s Starlink terminals at key FAA facilities—including a facility in Atlantic City and two remote locations in Alaska—immediately ignited backlash online and across political circles.

Musk’s Influence Spreading Too Far?

CNN commentator S.E. Cupp didn’t hold back, pointing out a series of incidents where Musk allegedly used his influence in government to advance his business interests. She highlighted how Musk previously fired FDA workers overseeing Neuralink approvals, a company he also owns, which raised even more ethical concerns about his expanding control over government agencies.

“Yes, Elon Musk has his hands in a lot of pots,” Cupp said. “And it’s not just financial gain—he’s consolidating power and influence at unprecedented levels.”

Critics Say: “Bond Villain Stuff”

Social media users quickly erupted with alarm:

  • One user on Musk’s own platform, X, called the FAA dealBond villain stuff,” describing Musk’s moves as straight out of a spy movie.
  • “Conflict of interest doesn’t even begin to describe this,” another warned. “The national security concerns here are off the charts.”

Even CNN anchor Dana Bash highlighted the irony and potential double-standard, noting:

“Imagine if this was George Soros working with Obama or Biden. The outrage would be nonstop.”

The FDA Connection Raises Eyebrows

Making matters worse, Cupp reminded viewers of reports that Musk allegedly fired FDA employees responsible for reviewing his Neuralink brain-implant company’s medical approval:

“This isn’t the first agency he’s interfered with—he reportedly fired FDA workers looking at his Neuralink program,” Cupp explained.

This latest FAA partnership with Starlink amplifies concerns Musk is using government authority to bolster his own businesses and silence oversight.

National Security and Safety Concerns Surge

Beyond ethical worries, experts fear this new FAA-Starlink partnership could have deeper implications:

  • Could Musk’s private control over crucial FAA communications pose national security threats?
  • Will critical government infrastructure become overly dependent on Musk’s private enterprises?

Twitter users summed it up bluntly, calling the move “Wild. Bond villain stuff.” Another described it as “beyond conflict of interest—it’s borderline dangerous.”
